Born to Act Players
Review of Last Years

Dearest BTAP, family, friends and fans,
Reflecting on 2008, I would like to acknowledge what a fabulous year we had! We were blessed by so many people in so very many ways! I am grateful!
In February we performed the great American classic, "Our Town" by Thorton Wilder at Valley College in the Horseshoe Theatre. It was amazing, thrilling and wonderful!!!
In September 2008 we performed a musical show, "BTAP, Back on Broadway" at Father Nicolas's beautiful Russian Orthodox Church, as the T.A. Dept at Valley is under construction. We had a very successful run!!! It was our first Cabaret style show, and I hope it won't be our last!
We also performed at the "Buddy Walk" at Santa Anita Racetrack, and did a great job!
We have some new, generous, multi talented assistants who have joined us this year! Also new, talented, adorable BTAP members! We're better than ever!!!
Thank you for supporting, loving, and believing in the "Born to Act Players"!
May God Bless You All! Much Love,
                             Mary Rings

The Year in Review

2009 was a wonderful year for BTAP!
We produced an original, musical show , " The Jewel at the Junction" by
long time BTAP Assistant ,Larry Sargent that was a hugh success!!! The
shows were sold out, and received standing ovations!!!!
Thank you to all who supported our show.
We also performed two musical numbers at the DSALA Buddy Walk  to
a very enthusiastic audience. Mark Wallengren from KOST radio was
there and gave us a big "shout out" on KOST Radio!!!!
Many BTAP members are accomplishing amazing things , and they will
be featured in a " news update" on our website soon!

                     God Bless You Al.
Thank You for Supporting the BTAP!
                     Love & Blessings,
                           Mary Rings
           Founder and Director of BTAP

On St. Patrick’s Day at Lull, Special Education Center, the BTAP performed their “Born to Be an Idol” show to standing ovations and sold out houses.

We also took our “Born to be an Idol” show on the road to Leichman High School where it was very enthusiastically received!

BTAP performed an acting workshop for a camp hosted by Jacques Hay at the Jewish Community Center in Woodland Hills.  Jacques presented each BTAP with an engraved trophy with their name.

For the 3rd year, the BTAP put on a very successful acting workshop at the DSALA Buddy Walk at the Santa Anita Racetrack.   In late July, back at Valley College the BTAP took the stage with “In the Moment,” a fantastic improve show.  The beautiful, talented and always gracious Lee Merriweather came again to our show and was part of a group improve.  Thanks Lee!

One of the amazing highlights of 2007 came late in December. Carla and Paola Menacho invited the BTAP  to appear on stage in 2 performances of  “High school Musical” at the Kodak Theateras as the “Wildcat Pep Squad.”. It was a great experience.

“You and me together, we can do anything!"
This song, written by our inspirational director Mary Rings, set the tone for the year.  We sang it in our January show at LA Valley College.  Our improve-variety production MOMENT TO MOMENT thrilled our audiences.

So much has happened since that soaring beginning of 2010.  The Gods smiled down upon us and we hit the big time--our name up in lights for all to see on the marquee of THE MADRID THEATER where we performed our second show of the year--a sparkling musical revue-- BROADWAY BOUND.  We wondered if we could fill a Four hundred seat theatre.  We not only sold out our first performance in record time but added another.  We were able to touch hundreds of people with our talent, zest and heart.
Thanks to Cissy Wellman and others we have had visits from celebrities who fell madly in love with us as we did with them--Steve-O, Anna Gunn, Shelly Long, Michael Learned and Howard Keel's widow Judy Keel. Many of us were able to see Linda Purl perform and meet her. KOST host Mark Wallengren mentioned us often on the radio and has interviewed some of our players.
So many of our troupe were featured in events,
plays, commercials, films, speaking engagements,
interviews. Robin Trocki landed a reoccurring role in the mega-hit television series GLEE.  We could fill a book with the credits and accomplishments of our players, assistants and parents.

We performed at the Los Angeles Buddy Walk in a very unique way--doing a
"Flashmob" where we surprised attendees by spontaneously breaking into song and dance and then disappearing into the crowd. We were a hit!

We have always wanted videos of our group and this year two "angels” appeared--brilliant filmmakers Kevin Foster and Simon Jones.  Thanks to their dedication, video of our players in action be seen on our website.  Our webmaster Akram Rahman updated our website to include videos and other features so that we can let the world know what we are doing.

We have had many blessings this past year, more than can be mentioned.  We also have been there with love and support whenever there have been tough times for any of our members.  No one in BORN TO ACT PLAYERS needs be alone because we care so much about one another.
We want to change attitudes by showing who we are and what we can do.
We might be referred to as a special needs group but a more accurate description would just be "special".

We accelerated our fund raising efforts and hope we can expand our program soon so that the training and performing opportunities that our troupe members are receiving can be available to so many others who are longing for what we have to offer.  Our dreams for the future are limitless.

Now onward to 2011 and all the wonders to come!!
